FROM CONCEPT TO YOUR COMPONENT

Start with the function, material and the question your first trial should answer.

Discuss this concept

Why work with us? Ground custom infrared optics in a material trial.

A process selected for the material

The IL600's process range supports route selection for the material and surface. We do not assume different infrared materials behave alike; a trial establishes suitability.

Early feedback before a costly blank

For a new substrate, we examine sample-surface behavior before the full lens. Brittle fracture, edge damage or fixturing issues may be found earlier; this does not replace acceptance of the finished optic.

Clear machining and optical work packages

We separate geometric work from transmission, coating and imaging tests. Working with us can be relevant when a standard lens does not fit the wavelength, package or prescribed surfaces.

Starting point · transmission band and environment

This concept outlines development of a custom infrared optical element, such as a germanium-based lens. Material selection considers wavelength band, thermal loading, mass and mounting environment. The illustrated element is a concept.

Specification · two surfaces, one optical axis

Define surface profiles, centre thickness, wedge, aperture and mechanical datums. Early clarification of material grade and coating needs separates machining from subsequent optical treatment.

A material-specific trial before the complete lens

Infrared materials do not share one universal machining route. Suitability of diamond machining, ultrasonic assistance or grinding is evaluated for the substrate. A material coupon informs the next operation; this concept does not claim availability of a new laser-machining system.

Limits of final-element evaluation

Form and mechanical inspection are separate from infrared transmission, coating assessment and system imaging tests. Scope, equipment and responsibility are defined in the project.

Outcome:

a material trial or lens prototype, geometric documentation and a defined functional test.
