Microlens arrays: edges belong in the optical design too

Lens profile, layout and transition regions: three inspection tasks on one master surface.

Microlens arrays: edges belong in the optical design too — illustrative visual, not measurement data

Why a single lens profile is not enough

An array also requires relative element positions and transition regions to be defined. Ideal design edges encounter finite tool radii and access constraints in manufacturing. The design handover therefore needs a meaningful requirement for each transition.

Toolpath dynamics · local changes matter

Innolite’s ILCAM3D MLA description treats sharp intersections as a specific toolpath-planning problem. Machining defined groups rather than traversing every lens continuously can help manage motion requirements. This is technology background, not a universal time or quality commitment.

Match the sample area with inspection

Choose an area containing a lens centre, an intersection and the steepest profile region. Record local form separately from neighbouring element positions. The replicated component’s light distribution requires another, functional test.
